Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Please do not create or sustain unreasonable noise, including generators, during those hours. |
Do not leave fires unattended. Driftwood may be collected only from below the high water line for use in campfires. Ground fires are allowed only in designated metal fire rings where available. Firewood may be purchased at concession stores. |
USE |
Please wash dishes at your campsite and not at the water faucets. Do not drain contaminated water on the ground; use the service sink at the comfort station. Dump holding tanks at sanitary stations located at each campground. Except for filling storage tanks, do not connect hoses to water faucets. |
Pets must be kept at all times on a leash not to exceed six feet in length and should not be left unattended. |
Please do not feed the wildlife. Animals can become dependent on handouts of food and lose their fear of humans. This is dangerous for the wildlife and for you. |
REMEMBER |
*** Do not
attach
wires, ropes, or nails to trees or shrubs. *** Digging, leveling, or other alterations of the ground is not permitted. |
| MINIMUM IMPACT CAMPING RULES |
| 1. Camp at least 100 feet away from desert springs or watering devices. Many animals rely on this water and will not drink if humans are near. |
| 2. Do not "improve" the campsite by digging trenches or cutting vegetation. We recommend using camp stoves or grills rather than building fires on the ground. Fires are permitted, but you must carry in your own wood. |
| 3. Remove all traces as you would trash, including ashes and unburned wood, and scatter your fire ring before leaving. |
| 4. Do all washing at least 100 feet from the high water line, using biodegradable soap. |
| 5. Always use established rest rooms. If none are available, dig a personal toilet pit at least six inches deep and 100 feet above the high water line. A shovel is an essential camp tool for sanitation. |
| 6. Carry out everything you carried in. Take trash bags along and pick up any liter you find. Do not leave your trash bagged on the shoreline or buried at the campsite. Animals will tear apart the trash bags and scatter litter throughout the area. |
Some routes and trails are available within Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA). Most of the hiking in the recreation area is cross-country. Information on desert hiking and suggested hikes can be obtained at the Lake Mead Visitor Center and Katherine Landing Ranger Station. . Ranger-guided hikes are offered every Saturday from early January through early April. Hikes vary from short walks to strenuous half-day hikes. |
